I don’t have proper words to express how I feel after reading this chapter, but there’s one thing I must say: Ken Wakui is such a good author. I’m really here shedding tears because of what happened to my favorite character. I think only a great author who writes a great story can stir such emotions in the reader.
What truly hurts, what truly rubs salt in the wound, is Draken realizing he’s dying, while looking up at the sky like he used to do when he was a kid after losing during fights. But, most of all, what is absolutely unbearable and extremely painful to see is Draken crying as he dies. Seriously, I can’t take this. Those panels are gut-wrenching to read. His face…
Also, the way Draken always worries and cares about his friends, until the very end. Telling Takemichi not to feel guilty is the umpteenth demonstration of how Draken is the best person on earth, I’m not even kidding. That’s insane, Ken Ryuguji is an ANGEL, I can’t even think of a more proper word.
And, of course, his speech about Mikey… No, I just, seriously… I will never get over it. Draken loves Mikey, he admires him and cares about him so much it hurts. Draken was there for him, with him, seeing him going through hell from the start.
Mikey is Draken’s very last thought, his very last word, his very last everything.
If Draken dies, he will never see his Mikey being saved, he will never even know. He will never have a last chance to be his friend, he will never have the last hug…
My heart is torn into a million pieces. I’m sorry because I wanted to write and say more about this chapter, but currently, I just can’t. I’m too devastated.
opinion: ok, i kinda think that tr can be pretty cheesy sometimes with its speeches especially during crucial character moments hehehe but this one i really do like. draken comparing a moment of weakness (looking up at the sky after losing in a fight) to finding peace, i.e. a state to aspire to, in a way kind of shows us exactly what’s so sad about manjiro: he never understood the sky because he’s never lost to anything/anyone. it’s always been ‘the invincible mikey’ and sure he’s not only strong but reliable as well, but draken knows probably more than anybody else (alive right now) that behind the title is also someone so human: someone who also deserves to have a moment where they don’t have to appear and act strong because it’s what’s expected of them; to experience that peace in knowing that you can sag your shoulders this one time and many more times but you can always pick yourself up each time.
finding strength in weakness…i think that ought to make one more invincible in life better than simply not losing, actually.
so it’s canon that daisuke is a spoiled kid who’s picky with food and in his family’s eyes he’s a big baby to the point he ran away because he dislikes N A T T O
BUT AFTER MEETING WITH HARU HE BECAME MORE MATURE AND ACTUALLY LIKES NATTO
Ep 1: Daisuke watched Haru fall down a river, unflinched.
Ep 2: Daisuke went all polite like a proper colleague and tailed behind Haru to ‘learn from his experience’.
Ep 3: Daisuke brought Haru home to his grandma, got called by his first name by Haru, allowed Haru to use his family’s exclusive HEUSC and quite literally put his life on Haru’s judgement .
Ep 4: Daisuke ran away from home to Haru, went grocery shopping with Haru, had dinner with Haru, had drinks and watched a melodrama with Haru, got drunk with Haru and spent the night at Haru’s place, all while wearing Haru’s sweatshirt.
Folks, Daiharu isn’t a ship. At this rate, it’s a FREAKIN’ ROCKET 😱.
